WHY NATURAL BUILDING?
At the heart of natural building is the intention to build human dwellings in a way that does not sacrifice the health of the occupants of the home or the health of the natural environment. This is done by using materials that come straight from the earth, without altering their essential character or form. The list of primary ingredients is fairly short: clay, sand, straw, stone, water, and wood. For thousands of years humans have used these materials to build shelter; natural building draws from these traditions and incorporates new techniques and tools as they develop. Natural building is very much a living discipline, and each project presents new opportunities for creativity in design.
